In Conclusion 3505 Miles Across the Country

Mission accomplished for me, but unfortunately Buzz was taken out by COVID in Sante Fe. I completed the remainder of the ride without him. This tour was a grueling task to say the least, cycling nearly every day for over 5 hours and sometimes 7 or 8 hours. Consuming enough carbs and proteins and staying hydrated was a constant effort. We also had to deal with the weather. Bad weather or good we rode. We did not have the luxury to scrap a ride due to the weather; we had to get to the next overnight to stay on plan. The CrossRoads staff was always supportive and cheerful. They also were good at resolving challenges such as getting around the fires in NM or dealing with road closures or construction. Finally, the injury to my left hip really slowed me for the last 10 days. I am very happy that I was able to manage it. I feel good and appreciate all the support I got from friends and family. Thank you all for lifting me up during this challenge. Sincerely, Pops

  1. Randy, you are the man! I can’t imagine how hard and rewarding this was for you! I know this has been a dream of yours for a long time. Are you ready for a rest week?

FYI, you now need to put that bike in a museum and buy a new one!

Great Job and thanks for making this blog. I was really book to be “with you” while I sat on my couch.

    1. Ron. Thanks for the support. I’m sitting in Logan airport waiting to fly home. It was truly awesome and rewarding. Yes, a few days rest are in order.

  2. This was not the first epic effort, I remember when you completed the full triathlon many years ago. You have accomplished too much and that’s the best reward to your efforts. Congratulations CHIEF!
